48 Hours in Split

Between my stay in the south of France and Berlin I decided to do two days in Split, Croatia. It’s only a small city so half a day to look around and go up the tower was enough. The highlight of my trip was the zip wires, about an hour’s drive out of Split which I did on the first afternoon.

On the second day I went on a boat tour to the blue caves (amongst other sights). Whilst the caves and a little beach we visited were unforgettable Instagram opportunities, the majority of the 10 hours were spent on an uncomfortable speedboat.

Summer 2018       2 Days

Cathedral of Saint Domnius

The Cathedral of Saint Domnius (Croatian: Katedrala Svetog Duje), known locally as the Sveti Dujam or colloquially Sveti Duje, is the Catholic cathedral in Split, Croatia. The climb up to the top of the bell Tower was great! In parts the metal staircase did feel a little unstable but once at the top the views over Split are stunning!

Diocletian's Palace

Diocletian's Palace is an ancient palace built for the Roman Emperor Diocletian at the turn of the fourth century AD, that today forms about half the old town of Split, Croatia.

Street Food

There is a great street food culture in Split, and the food is amazing. It’s simple and cheap. Misto is a small place that really stands out. I had a chicken pita bread which is very simple, but it was the best chicken pita I’ve ever tasted! It’s not just the food either, lots of juice bars and stalls set up in the streets selling amazing mojitos!

Old Town 90 minute Walking Tour

Split is a town of ancient history, built and preserved over the course of 1700 years by its loving inhabitants. Embark on a walking tour of the Diocletian palace, the most precious cultural and historical monument in the city. On this small group tour the guide took us through the fish markets, around the built-up streets of Split and ends at the bell tower. Along the way you’ll hear about the history not only of Split but also Croatia.

Zip Wires

This was without a doubt the best thing about my 2 days in Croatia. The zip wires are around an hour’s drive out of Split.

There are a few different tours, but the one I went on there were 8 wires in total ranging in size and speed. Such an adrenaline rush gliding 100 meters above the forests and rivers.

Marjan Hill

Beyond the city walls there is a big hill which you can see on the left-hand side when you’re at the promenade. The street walking to the top is very steep but it does have bars and cafes to stop. The view over Split and the sea is great at sunset.

Blue Cave on Biševo Island

Hvar 5 Islands and Blue Cave Day Tour from Split

The blue cave was the highlight on a day trip I took; Hvar 5 Islands and Blue Cave Day Tour from Split. Our guide organised the day to suit how busy the caves are, so he got our tickets and we had a 2 hour wait to go into the caves (in that time we went to a nearby beach lagoon). When it was finally our turn to go in the caves (only 2 small boats can fit inside at any one time), we only got to spend 5 minutes inside, not that there is anything to do inside but it’s a lovely experience to see how the sun shines under the rocks which is what creates the blue effect.

Biševo Cove

Hvar 5 Islands and Blue Cave Day Tour from Split

Part of the Hvar 5 Islands and Blue Cave Day Tour from Split, we got to spend around 90 minutes at this gorgeous cove!

Vis

Hvar 5 Islands and Blue Cave Day Tour from Split

Vis is a small beach that we visited on the Hvar 5 Islands and Blue Cave Day Tour from Split. The small beach is only accessible by boat and you must swim to the shore.
