Nice

France

4 days relaxation

As part of my three week trip to various places in Europe, I decided to spend 3 nights in Nice after a few hectic days in Paris as a bit of a rest. Having saved money on accommodation in other places by staying in hostels, this time I decided to stay in a luxurious Radisson Blu, complete with a rooftop pool. The weather was amazing during my stay and barring a couple of times I barely left the sun loungers!

In one of the three evenings in Nice I did an evening tour to Monaco. A minibus of 5 other people and the driver, it took around 90 mins along the coast from Nice to Monaco.

Summer 2018       3.5 Days

Promenade des Anglais

This is the main strip of beach along the coast of Nice. It runs right from the airport up to the port. All the main hotels and bars are located along this strip. On the first evening I walked halfway up the promenade and found somewhere nice on the beach to have a steak meal. Taxi ride back was nearly 40 euros, very expensive!

Old Town

One evening I had a walk down the beach from to the old town. It was a lovely area (although a little busy). This destination I was travelling alone, but had I been with friends it would have been lovely to have spent an evening sitting outside the bars with a mojito in one hand and nibbles in the other!

Massena Square

This square is located just off the old town, completely pedestrianised filled with bars and restaurants. On either side of the squares there are small park and public areas (see below). This was a lovely area to find a nice day and sit and relax.

Located just off Massena Square, a small garden with water sprays coming up from the ground called "Albert I garden". Lots of kids playing around and adults using it as a perfect Instagram opportunity. The nice sprays are a nice way to cool off in the summer.

Also a short walk from the square was a massive area of water fountains, "Paillon Promenade", a great way to cool off after a day in the heat! It felt more like a kid’s water park than anything else.

Monte Carlo

An evening in Monaco

Eze

This was the first stop on the evening tour (halfway between Nice and Eze). From this cliff top you can see 3 countries (France which your standing in and towards the right and looking towards the left Monaco and Italy)! Seeing this at sunset was one of the best views.

Fontvieille Harbour

Monaco is just stunning and very clear its an area with a lot of money! Our first stop was at the Princes Palace and just behind this you get a view from above of the harbour area. Definitely the best time to see this is during the sunset/golden hour.

Princes Palace of Monaco

I do not know anything other than the fact this is the Princes Palace! But what I can tell you is that the time to visit this is sunset or night time and see it all lit up. I am so pleased that I choose the evening tour of Monaco (as opposed to a daytime tour), seeing these beautiful sights at twilight paid off.

Saint Nicholas Cathedral

Again, seeing this cathedral lit up at twilight was fantastic. We didn’t get to go inside; this isn’t what the tour was about. Out only free time during this short evening trip was around 90 minutes to find somewhere to eat or go for a flutter in the casino!

Monte-Carlo Casino

I think better than going inside was just to see the casino from the outside and the expensive cars parked out front! I went into the foyer of the casino, but wasn’t able to go into the main part as I wasn’t dressed the part! (and did not have the money to spend)!

The week before Monnaco had hosted the Grand Prix, there were still fresh tyre marks on the roads!
