Pisa

Italy

24 hours in Pisa

This was a very short 24 hour stay in Pisa. Myself and two other friends had been to a friend’s wedding in Sorrento (south Italy) and decided to make a full weeks holiday out of it. After the wedding we got a train to Rome and then to Pisa. Seeing the leaning tower of Pisa has been one of the landmarks I had desperately wanted to visit for many years.

We arrived in Pisa in the afternoon giving us time to check into our accommodation and get a shower before heading out. We had pre booked to go up the tower.

Pisa was a lovely town; the streets were very quiet which is not what any of us expected given it was high season (end of July). But Pisa is only a small town in Northern Italy and not only is it off the beaten track (a distance from any major city) the tower of Pisa is it’s only real attraction.

The weather was 38 degrees during the time here so it was very warm!

Leaning Tower of Pisa

The tower itself was difficult to climb because of its 4 degree angle, and when you are at the top, it’s quite disorienting because on one side your actually facing down. We went up at sunset and the views were very nice over the town of Pisa.

Piazza del Duomo

The Piazza dei Miracoli, formally known as Piazza del Duomo, is a walled 8.87-hectare area located in Pisa, Tuscany, Italy, recognized as an important centre of European medieval art and one of the finest architectural complexes in the world. Residing right next to the tower you can go inside and marvel at more architecture.
