Playa de las Américas

Teneriffe

Home Abroad

Playa de las Américas is my families second home, we first came out as a family in 1997 (when I was 18 years old), my parents have been out most years since (until my dad passed away in 2018).  In 2011, I joined them for a week which was my second time in Tenerife and I could easily see why they liked it so much. There is something very familiar about that place, and its somewhere that is close to my heart as it reminds me of happy times with my family and in particular my dad who I knew loved it here. You can avoid the typical (dare I say, rough around the edges) British people if you wish, its nothing like Benidorm! Its hot all year round due to its proximity to Africa. In 2019 we took my dad’s ashes to be spread on the beach here, so the resort will always (in a way) have a link back to us.

Las Americas Light Show

Right in the centre of the resort there is a small shopping centre with bars and restaurants at the top, called “Safari”, at the base there are fountains and every night at 9pm and then at 10pm a musical show starts where the fountains play to the music.

Café Del Parque

Right on the sea front there is a small café/restaurant that does the most amazing paellas. This has become a highlight each time I make a visit, and always have the Lobster and seafood Paella to share!

It overlooks my favourite part of the resport, the sea front looking out onto the most gorgeous sunsets.

Santa Cruz

Personally, I didn’t think all that much to Santa Cruz, and one visit was enough (I wouldn’t return). The day we came here it was very cold (compared with the south of the island) in the morning, there was a bell tower you could climb as you will see from the picture with the view from above, but really struggling to say anything more here, sadly.

Siam Park

It’s a water park, not much more to say! But actually, it is pretty cool and voted one of the best in the Europe and number one destination on Trip Advisor. Even better they run free regular busses from Playa de las Americas, and its only a 10/15 minutes trip out of the resort.

Montana Chayofita

The large hill that sits between Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos (the next resort). Whilst it looks from the bottom that it could be a challenging climb, it actually isn't, the is a pathway with a gradual slope to the top. Well worth the views.

Las Salinas Mojito Hut

That’s right, a mojito hut on the beach, on one side the stunning resort of Las Americas, and on the other the ocean over looking the island of La Gomera. Perfect! This is easily my favourite bar and spot in the whole of Tenerife.

Mount Teide

Mount Teide is a volcano on Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Spain. Its summit is the highest point in Spain and the highest point above sea level in the islands of the Atlantic. From Playa de las Americas it takes a couple of hours to get to Teide National Park (which is the base that runs around the peak of Teide) by coach.  The National Park is lovely, and a nice mix of pine trees, rock and miles of dry sand. From the base you can get a cable car to the peak of Teide where you find yourself above the clouds (and perhaps short of breath from the thin air) but the views are amazing!

Medieval Night

For a night’s entertainment and food, it is worth booking a trip to the Medieval Night, its been running for over 20 years. You get food and entertainment, and its only a 15 min coach trip out of the resort.

Mini Golf

Every time I’ve been to Playa de las Americas, I’ve always had a game of Mini Golf! Choose either 9 or 18 holes, a nice way to spend an hour in the evening. And I always win!!
